30 Kopecks for Mikhalkov

In response to a controversial copyright levy on blank media, internet users organized a grassroots protest by mailing blank discs and 30 kopecks in coins to the Russian Union of Rights Holders headed by filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov.

A certain user csketchup, like many other internet users and Habr members, was unhappy with the "blank media levy" in favor of the Russian Union of Rights Holders (RSP), established by filmmaker Nikita Mikhalkov.

In short... He went beyond just complaining in comments and today proposed the idea of a small offline protest, leading by example — he went to the post office and sent a blank disc along with 6 five-kopeck coins (totaling 30 kopecks) in a letter with delivery confirmation to the RSP address:

And it seems he found support among the masses — tomorrow and early next week, a fairly large number of people are planning to go to the post office to send their portion of tribute to the illustrious Nikita Sergeyevich.

The address and details below the cut.

  • You should send a blank disc purchased locally. It may have legal (!) content recorded on it (for example, personal photos, an Ubuntu distribution, or for the more adventurous, OpenBSD).
  • If the disc is blank, it's better to write some neutral inscription on it so they don't get put to use.
  • The coins should be silver-colored, meaning five-kopeck or one-kopeck coins.
  • This can be sent as a parcel or a letter with delivery confirmation (whichever is more convenient for you).
  • Address: 123290, Moscow, Shelepikhinskaya Embankment, 8a, "Russian Union of Rights Holders," to Mikhalkov N.S.

And it's better to bring some tape so the coins don't rattle around:

The cost of sending a letter with delivery confirmation was 56 rubles.

The original idea came from Rakshasa.

If you spread the word — that would be simply wonderful.
